EPR has conducted a number of studies on training and education, especially workplace training. These include:

  • a major project on behalf of a consortium comprising ConstructionSkills, English Heritage and Cadw to establish the demand for heritage building skills in Wales. This focused on the use of traditional materials and examined current training provision and needs. The study comprised 40 personal and 450 telephone interviews with employers, FE colleges and other training providers, manufacturers and building professionals
  • a similar survey has just been completed in Ireland, north and south, this comprising 60 personal and 600 telephone interviews, again with employers, colleges and other stakeholders. This was more challenging in that two different education systems had to be covered. As a result of this, the Northern Ireland Environment Agency has established a Traditional Building Skills Centre at its depot in Moira, County Down. Furthermore, Southern Regional College in partnership with NIEA will also be delivering short duration stonemasonry courses at the centre in Moira and their college campus. • research for a leading water company among teachers, to investigate opportunities for educational outreach by the company and assess satisfaction with that already provided eg visits to reservoirs, classroom education etc

A new MysteryWeb survey – University Clearing – has just been commissioned and will be published in September 2009.
